Do these other editions you mention have pictures? They sound interesting...

Very cool.

I still remember trying, and failing, to get the MK8D bundle that Russia got long before any other territory.

Марио и Соник на Олимпийских зимних играх 2014 в Сочи ОГРАНИЧЕННЫЙ ИЗДАНИЕ

Presented here is an unofficial factory-produced high-quality rendition of 'Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games Limited Edition'.

**Please scroll down for pictures**

History

This title was rumoured to exist on this forum some years ago.

It was claimed that the pack was seen during a visit to Sochi and was bundled with gloves as part of an exclusive limited edition in Russia.

It made perfect sense that Nintendo Russia would release an exclusive set for this game. For one, they would eventually release a limited edition of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze that came bundled with fridge magnets and a poster. Two, Russia was officially hosting the Winter Games, and this was, of course, seen as a huge thing for them, so it would make sense for Nintendo to capitalise on this with a limited edition.

For PAL collectors, the prospects of owning such a rare title was indeed exciting. Especially considering that it was never confirmed to be found by any other person in Russia apart from the member who spread the rumour.

The reality of the matter is that the pack did not exist. It was never an official release.

It could be that Nintendo simply did not have the confidence to release a new edition in a dwindling market like Russia, where Wii U sales were slowly losing traction, and also given the fact that Sonic is a trademark of SEGA, so the pack would be licensed and profits would have to be split. But for those curious souls, if a limited edition did exist, what would it look like? How awesome would it have been to have owned one. Well, that question has finally been answered.

About the pack:

Inside is 1x official Russian release of the game, 1x poster, 1x official Blue Wii Motion Plus remote, 1x official Red Wii Motion Plus remote, 2x official remote jackets & wrist straps, and 4x AA batteries to power the remotes.

Only three of these packs have been produced. The items selected are a mixture of elements inspired by the NTSC bundle of this game as well as the Japanese bundle 'Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games'. The inclusion of the poster is something Nintendo Russia did already with another release on the Wii U set (DKTF LE) so this was a logical step to take.

The gloves that were originally rumoured to exist for this pack made no sense whatsoever to include, so this idea was naturally shelved.

Everything from the ultra-sharp, vivid details on the product packaging down to the inserts have been designed with precision.

This is a very high-quality production that has been made with meticulous detail to look like a real Nintendo release. The bonus items have been carefully selected to look as original and suitable as possible. It has been authentically designed to give a realistic feeling of what this limited edition would look like had it ever made an official release.

What's the point of this?

After discovering that the pack did not exist, I decided to create an authentic-looking rendition of it to add to my personal collection. We often see people create custom English packs for their games but it's very rare to see someone make one in the Russian language. I am very proud of the final design and more importantly, the quality of the final version.

The box is glossy, sturdy and feels great in the hand. There is no pixelation on the box.

So the purpose of this post is simply to showcase the pack and there is nowhere better to do this than on GBX. Many of those who have completed their full sets are sometimes looking for alternative things to collect, like promo items, display pieces, or unofficial cool-looking custom packs to add to their collections.

In the end we collect out of pure love for the console and this project essentially reflects just that.

Thank for reading.
