The latest PSP firmware, version 2.60, has been hacked, potentially opening the door to not only homemade software but scores of illicit, emuluated games across multiple firmware versions.

PSP Updates website regular "Fanjita" is proving to be a thorn in the side of Sony and its PSP security efforts. Although the latest hack only allows gamers to play a version of Tetris on their PSPs, it may eventually enable gamers to play emulated software from the NES to the arcade.

Of course, the ability to play emulated games on a PSP is nothing new, but those who had anything over firmware version 2.0 were previously out of luck as far as homebrew gaming was concerned.

PSP Updates seems quite cavalier about the accomplishment, saying "Fanjita just keeps on crackin' Sony's efforts to keep us from our homebrew!" Comments following the post often reflected pleasure in sticking it to Sony: "Congrats Fanjita... this is great... I'm laughing my a-- off at Sony."

Playing countless classic games on a PSP may be appealing to many, but would-be hackers often end up rendering their systems useless or crippled after going through the series of firmware upgrading and downgrading that is required for extensive homebrew and emulated play.

Sony will likely be releasing a firmware update shortly.

да дальше чем запуск пары хоумбрю-дело не пойдёт думаю,2.0 вон тоже якобы взломали..а в итоге ни бе ни ме,так и все прошивки дальше будут "взламывать" на которых дай бог прога какая-нибудь пойдёт,на чём всё и кончиться,масшатбного хоумбрю как на 1.5 уже не будет нигде
