Теперь уже можно смело делать тему по игре, так как появились ясные подтверждения от разрабов игры. Получилась комичная ситуация, когда они ждали SDK под Свитч и нужную версию Unreal Engine 4, необходимую для реализации порта и пока ждали, для Свитча вышла версия UE4, которая гораздо новей той, на которой игра была создана изначальна. Теперь разрабы заняты адаптацией игры под новый релиз движка. Теперь стало ясно, что ждать релиза игры на Свитче нам придется гораздо дольше, чем на PS4 и PC.

J: Square made a statement to the press recently mentioning that the development of the Switch version will take a long time. Could you give us any info about the stage of development the Switch version is in, and possibly quantify this “long time” a bit more precisely?

Unfortunately we can’t quantify the time frame yet based on the current situation, but we can let you know what we’re currently doing. To give you some background, when we were initially developing XI we did have the Switch version in our outlook for the platforms we wanted to release the game on. That being said, at that moment in time the SDK (Software Development Kit) for the Nintendo Switch wasn’t ready, which means we couldn’t start working on the port of game.

Now that the SDK is ready and the engine supports it we were able to startworking to support that platform for the game. That being said, the version of Unreal Engine 4 that supports the Switch is actually a version that’s higher than what Dragon Quest XI was built on, so that means we need to upgrade the engine and that comes with a slew of issues.

Right now we’re in the midst of resolving all those issues. Of course, we did consider bringing the Switch version out at the same time at the same time as the PS4 and PC versions but that meant since we don’t have a precise outlook on the development timerframe, we still believe it’s going to be a long way out.

It's all lavish in the same way Dragon Quest 8 was in its day, although my one big problem with Dragon Quest 11's vanilla edition was how its progress was as glacial as the famously slow Dragon Quest 7. Maybe that's something that delights you, or maybe you're wondering, like me, why Dragon Quest 11 takes as long to get to its opening titles as Stanley Kubrick took to explore faith, intelligence and the question of extra-terrestrial life in 2001: A Space Odyssey. By that point in Dragon Quest 11, you've just about answered the question of where the jump button is.

The Switch version does have its own answer to all that, of sorts, with a new option to speed up battles even further. It certainly helps with progression, takes some of the pain out of grinding, and makes Dragon Quest 11's long journey that bit more palatable. Is this the best Dragon Quest? Some people believe so, and I can understand why - it's where the character, charm and colour that make this series so beloved are at their most vivid. Personally I'm not so sure, and even after the improvements made for this edition I wish Dragon Quest 11 could find a little more space for its players, though there's no denying the eloquence of its craft, or the vastness of its scope. In terms of scale and spectacle, this is as grand an adventure you'll find on the Nintendo Switch this side of Breath of the Wild.

Dragon Quest XI S is one of the finest RPGs on Switch. With its classic yet refined battle system and plethora of side content, the game can easily keep you chugging along for 100 hours or more. While the world at large may not be all that open, it offers a lot of flair and interesting elements to experience. Everything from entertaining characters to amusing quests, it all comes together in a way such that the journey never slows down. I do feel that the game tries to hold your hand just a teensy bit too much. You can change it in the settings so that some NPCs will start lying to you, but even then, it was hard to really get lost. That is, however, a slight misstep in a game that I adored from beginning to end.

God Is a Geek (9.5/10):
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a triumph, a showcase that maybe it is possible to port everything to Switch (provided adequate concessions are made), the aesthetic probably goes some way to allowing this and we’ll probably get a better idea of how well the Switch can handle things when The Witcher 3 gets released. What we have here though is a huge game, with a wonderful story, sumptuous looks, and unparalleled depth, and you can play it practically anywhere! We often say a game is perfect for Switch, here I’d say the Switch is perfect for Dragon Quest XI S.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is an achievement that Square should be proud of; this is one of the best games they’ve put out in years. A heartwarming, well-paced narrative supported by a cast of fantastic characters, a dense and interesting overworld packed with dozens of hours of content, and one of the finest soundtracks we’ve heard in a JRPG combine to make this an unforgettable modern classic. Whether you’re a newcomer to the JRPG genre or a returning vet, do yourself a favor and buy Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age as soon as you’re able. This is the epitome of a gift that keeps on giving, and it more than deserves a spot in your Switch library.

TheSixthAxis (8/10):
Dragon Quest XI is already an incredible JRPG, but this massively updated Switch release makes it almost mandatory. With new outfits, new quests, an entirely new 2D mode and a huge range of quality of life improvements, it's easy to consider this the best version of the game to play. The only thing holding it back from earning that title are some unfortunate visual and performance issues. A handy patch can fix the latter, but really the only reason not to prefer this version is if pristine graphics are your highest priority.
