Adding support for Tegra239 SoC which has eight cores in
a single cluster. Also, moving num_clusters to soc data
to avoid over allocating memory for four clusters always.

And here's the other big one along with the RAM and storage: T239. Yes, this is in fact the Switch 2 SoC, with its proper Nvidia production part number. The Tegra X1 in the original Switch had a part number of ODNX02-A2, while TX1+/Mariko is ODNX10-A1. The "ODN" is from Odin, Nvidia's (and also Nintendo's) codename for the motherboard and sometimes sorta by extension the console itself (see my post about codenames). Side note, I've always thought it was "OD (Odin) NX 02," using the Switch's codename of NX, but it's actually "ODN (Odin) X02."

So what we have for T239 is the code GML and the revision number X30 (and tapeout code A1). I can't say what the significance of that revision number really is. But GML is actually very meaningful to me, because it's the board codename I've been waiting to see since the Nvidia hack in March 2022: Gimle. That name was in the leaked source files, appearing as the new equivalent to Odin, and it's taken this long for some sign of it to finally surface outside the hack. It seems that Nintendo is doing product codes differently this time, because CMB is being used where I expected to see GIMLE all this time. But here it is at last.

With the motherboard leak showing the die size of the chipset in the Switch 2, it's been pretty much confirmed Switch 2 uses Samsung 8nm lithography for the manufacturing process, the same as Nvidia's Ampere chips. This is 4-year-old technology at this point and 8nm processing has been used in mobile devices since around 2018, so it's a little disappointing, but it's not awful at all. Let me explain.

Switch 2 uses the Tegra T239, a chipset with an 8-core ARM Cortex A78C CPU and a 1536 CUDA cores GPU with reportedly about 4-4.5 Teraflops (TFlops) of raw processing power when docked, allowing it to get raw performance close to that or possibly even exceeding that of the PlayStation 4 Pro. In handheld mode, it's likely to have about 45-50% of that, with performance estimated to be similar to the regular PS4 or Steam Deck.

The closest GPU to that of Nintendo Switch 2 is the Nvidia RTX A500 laptop edition, which has 2048 CUDA cores. The lowest power version of that GPU uses 20W of power and reaches GPU clock speeds of 1335 MHz, giving it 5.468 TFlops of raw power. Decreasing the core count to 1536 like Switch 2 makes the GPU have 4.101 TFlops, pretty much in line with the estimated GPU power of Switch 2, and would lower power usage to about 15W as it now only has 75% of the cores. Power draw doesn't necessarily scale linearly with performance, especially with different clock speeds and overclocking or undervolting, but with less cores it should be close to linear scaling.

When it comes to the CPU power draw, we'd have to compare the Switch 2 CPU to the Samsung Exynos 9820 used in the Samsung Galaxy S10 outside the US. Except I can't as there's no TDP figures published for that CPU. But I estimate the CPU contributes about 3-5W to the power draw. My estimate is that the full Switch 2 uses 21W in docked mode with everything at full power, but since not every component is used 100% at any time, I predict the average power draw will be around 18-20W in docked.

In handheld mode, it becomes more interesting. Switch 1 V1 uses about 11W in Breath of the Wild when docked and about 5.8W in handheld mode while at 100% brightness and volume or about 4.7W at 0% brightness and volume. Since Switch 2 has about a 25% bigger screen area, I estimate this difference between full brightness/volume and zero brightness/volume to be 1.2W. So if Switch 1 in handheld uses 42% of the power when docked with zero brightness, I'd estimate Switch 2 to use about 8W (40% of 20W, 44% of 18W) with the screen and volume at 0% brightness. Add about 0.5W for medium brightness, and you get about 8.5W.

Next up is the battery. The battery compartment size was already revealed in previous leaks and I estimated the battery capacity to be about 22 Wh in a previous post. This would give the console about 2 hours and 30 minutes of battery life in an intensive scenario. And obviously, these are estimates and power consumption could be even lower. But at least 2.5 hours is very decent especially considering PC handhelds barely get 1.5 hours in triple-A games. And playing Switch 1 games it could last upwards of 10 hours.

TL;DR: Switch 2 at 8nm could still deliver PS4-like performance with 2.5 hours of battery life.
